Breakfast in our hotel before we ventured out into Ho Chi Minh City for tour of the City with our guide showing us many of the historical areas and landmark buildings. Many of the buildings were built by the French when they were here as part of their Empire. Of special interest was the Presidential Palace where the American communications bunker and escape tunnel featured during the end of the conflict. We also visited the War Remnants Museum It primarily contains exhibits relating to the Vietnam War, but also includes many exhibits relating to the first Indochina War involving the French colonialists. There were many objects of historical interest other than the period of the Vietnam War.
A change of pace as we visites the Ben Thanh Markets. Ben Thanh Markets, first opened in 1913, is a large marketplace in central Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in District 1. The market is one of the earliest surviving structures in Saigon and an important symbol of Ho Chi Minh City. We enjoyed our visit which showed us the Vietnamese people going about their everyday business in this bustling market.
We headed back to our hotel before dinner again in an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Tomorrow we head out into the Mekong Delta.
