On Tour - Greece and Crete ANZAC Day in Athens 2011 - 2 May 2011

First we visited the Vevi Site where the Australians stood with the 21 Greek Regiment and the Dodencanese Regiment awaiting the onslaught of the Germans.

The 2/8th Bn took most of the first brunt of the attack but a counter attack by Sgt Duncan from McDonald's company dislodged the Germans and gained the vital ground. He was awarded a DCM for that action. His daughter and her husband are travelling with us, Leonie and Robert Fish. They were able to walk the ground where her father had been with his platoon.

Then on to the special function that the village of Ano Komi had put together for our group.

We are the only group who have visited this village over the last couple of years and due to the work they are doing on their old church, thjat was damaged in an earthquake in 1995, a collection in the coach gathered over €400 to be donated to this rebuilding fund.

Tonight we are dinning with the village...those shots will appear tomorrow when we reach Platamon.
