On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 28 June 2012

The day started will an early coach trip through heavy traffic into London. We alighted our coach at Hyde Park Corner and made our way to Green Park. Obtaining tickets to gain entry was a difficult job as there was such a call on tickets, however, Group Captain Peter Wood had taken the full details of those on our touring party and finally he was able to obtain tickets for us all.

There were many thousands in attendance and this was the hottest day in London, this year. The St John's Ambulance people were kept very busy indeed.

The Service was excellent and we had seen the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, and Charles' two brothers. The Lancaster flew overhead and dropped thousands of poppies that fell into the crowd who were outside the enclosed area. The Memorial to Bomber Command is quite striking and the figures are larger than life size. A very fitting Memorial to the many men who had served in those flying machines.

I finally gathered our people and Rod our Driver, took us down to St Clements Danes Church where we conducted a small service in the crypt of the church.

The day therefore had finished with such a memorable moment. Tomorrow we head north.
