On Tour - Egypt and Libya - 27 March 2010

After 2 days in Apollonia we headed towards Benghazi. We did not take the route that most of the 6th Division had taken but from Apollonia we headed to Benghazi via the coast road and through the JABAL AKHDAR, Green Mountains.

This part of our tour covers the areas where finally the Italians were defeated in 1941 and where Rommel made his first excursions into the Western Desert. This is the area also where the 9th Division was nearly cut off and captured but due to Morshead's tenacity he was able to ensure that the Division was able to extract itself and fall back on Tobruk.

Once we arrived in Benghazi we were able to have a little free time to explore the city prior to dinner in our hotel followed by an evening city tour in our coach. Tomorrow we fly to Cairo.
