On Tour - Swim the Dardanelles and Sponsored Surf Clubs Tour of Turkey 27 August 2010
Swimmers Tour Istanbul - Surfers Prepare
Today our Swim the Dardanelles tour group toured Istanbul. The day began with a visit to the ancient Roman Hippodrome followed by the
Blue Mosque. The architecture is beautiful and construction
amazing. All were impressed with the courtesy of the Turkish people
allowing us into the sanctum of their worship. There followed a visit to
Hagia Sofia, the church turned mosque, turned museum still standing strong after
1,500 years in an earthquake prone area. A true monument to the architects
and their army of labourers.
Then there was the Topaki Palace with its beautiful architecture and stories
of intrigue. Luncheon was taken at the Topaki Palace Restaurant.
The afternoon was spent at the Grand Bazzar, dinner at our fish restaurant on
the Bosphorus capping of the truly memorable day.
Tomorrow our swimmers head south for a tour of the Gallipoli battlefields.
Our Surf Club tour group spent the day at Kum Beach preparing and rehearsing
for the surf carnival, Sunday.
