A good night's rest following that long flight from Australia and elsewhere for the travellers before venturing into Alexandria for a full day of sightseeing.
After breakfast at what was once the Hotel Cecil, we headed off on the coach first to Pompey's Pillar. Since my last visit to Alexandria, the catacombs on the site have been excavated and are now open to the public.
The next stop was at a site that had been a hill until the last seven years. A Roman theatre, bath house and cottages have been excavated. Where there had been a hill on which the British Army and before them the French Army had had barracks, there was now a hole with the theatre etc in it. Also on display were some of the statues that had fallen into the sea when the Pharaohs had collapsed. Excavations were being conducted while we were there. The tools were picks and wicker baskets.
Then we went to the Alexandria National Museum. The building had been the American Embassy.
A seafood lunch was held on the open veranda at the Greek Naval Club.
After lunch we went to the Bibliotheca Alexandria. This is the third attempt to have an international library at Alexandria.
The weather has been fine with a cold breeze.
