On Tour - Bomber Command (RAAF in the UK) 17 July 2013

A day in York.

York is such a wonderful city with so much history within its walls. One of the last walled cities to be under siege, in the War of the Roses, it has maintained its aura with the help of the wonderful Minster. Many of the buildings within its walls are as they were all those years ago and the famous area of the Shambles is a delight.

Prior to our free time in York, a small group visited the airfield museum at Elvington. This Museum commenced as such in 1891 and has grown since. The site of 2 French Squadrons during the War has added to the special history. Most of the buildings that were there during the War are still there and add to the authenticity of the airfield as a WW2 airfield.

Tomorrow we leave the north and head back down towards Salisbury.
