On Tour - RAAF in the UK 10 July 2010

An easier day for Alan and Graham as 2 ½ hours was free time in Cambridge for all on the tour. We left the hotel at 0830 following an excellent breakfast. The hotel is very good indeed and also is a wedding centre where 2 ceremonies will be held today.

Arriving at Cambridge we alighted and left Martin to park the coach outside the town. A good time to start our visit to Cambridge as the streets were still empty. A different story when we returned to "The Backs" where our pickup was to take place. Most viewed the various colleges including the famous King's College.

Magnificent architecture abounds and some people were already experiencing the tranquillity of a "punt" down the river.

All arrived back in time, this does make it good for Martin, our driver, as he wouldn't then have to hang around. We headed east to Lavenham where as well as viewing the old airfield we had lunch in the very old hotel, The Swan. A 5 star hotel and we experienced an exotic lunch, something the hotel is famous for.

The airfield has 3 runways, old buildings and the central tower has been refurbished. We were able to drive onto the airfield and park the coach near the tower. A local farmer who is the neighbour of the owner of the field came by and showed us the way out via the original perimeter road.

Then to Letchworth for dinner, tomorrow Duxford and the air show.
