Polygon Wood and Passchendaele Centenary Tour 26 September 2017

An early rise 0100 to assemble at 0130 then leave by 0200 for the ceremony.

Some delays en-route meant we arrived slightly behind schedule, a blessing in disguise, we were able to take in the reflective trail after the ceremony rather than before, thus avoiding the crowd.

The ceremony was very well attended, well run and the keynote speeches by the Governor General and Princess Astrid of Belgium rather exceptional.

Our tour guests Lorraine, Stephen, Ransigma and Paul were able to lay a wreath at the service, their effort televised to Australia for their extended families to see.

The reflective program was moving, and the reflective trail quite an eye opener, very moving.

The only sad note being that with the ceremony conducted entirely in darkness, it was hard to get good photos. Not to worry, we will be visiting the site again tomorrow in the full light of day when we will be able to discuss the battles in detail.

We spent the remainder of the day recovering from the early start.
