A beautiful sunny day for our first day of touring. After a good night's sleep, gathered in our hotel foyer then headed out early northward to the Forêt de Compiègne where the armistice was signed in 1918. We were all impressed with the quiet contemplative nature of the location, and all visited the museum where a replica of the railway carriage where the fait accompli terms presented to the German delegation were agreed.
Onward we headed up the freeway to Peronne where we visited the Musée de la Grande Guerre. Hearing our accents, the staff allowed is to see the special Australian exhibition. All were most impressed.
