Sadly, today is the end of Tour No. 2 Flanders. This will be the last report for that tour.
The start of the day we went to the White House cemetery, near Ypres, where Chris visited the grave of friend of his in Geelong who has a descendent (Pte William Cullen, 31st Battalion) buried in the cemetery.
Nearby, John took the opportunity to go to the Aeroplane cemetery and visit the grave of a friend of his in Canberra who had a descendent (Pte Walter Sayers, 7th Battalion) buried in the cemetery.
Also during the day we visited the battlefield site where the Australians troops fought in the Battle of Messines and the Third Battle of Ypres (Battle of Passchendaele). Battle sites visited were:
• Battle of Messines at the Irish Peace Park
• Battle of Menin Road
• Battle of Hill 60, including a visit to the Caterpillar mine site
• Battle of Polygon Wood, including a visit to the New Buttes British cemetery
• Battle of Passchendaele, including a visit to Tyne Cot cemetery
• Langemark German cemetery.
At the New Buttes British cemetery Chris visited the grave of one of his ancestors (Private Henry Kelly, 21st Battalion). Killed in action on 9 October 2018.
