Today the weather god did not favour us. It rained, and it was cold. Looked OK to start with, we trooped into the site with the sun peeping through clouds and the wind a quiet zephyr. That changed as time went by, the rain was as cold as sleet, and the wind quite a blow.
Nonetheless the ceremony went ahead. Soldiers wound-up with a dry-cleaning bill and VIPs did not look dry as they spoke. Our tour guests braved the cold, appreciated the entertainment and well delivered speeches.
When the ceremony ended the weather was particularly fierce, so we skipped the Villers-Bretonneux town ceremony and headed straight for our Paris hotel in our warm, dry bus.
Prior to our great evening meal together where we said goodbye to our Tour 1 guests, we paused for a group photo.
Tomorrow our Tour 1 guests will go their own separate ways whilst those on Tour 2 will head north to Flanders and the rest of the Australian battlefields of World War 1.
